Probably every makeup lover has their favorite seasonal shades. If in the warm period of the year, we tend to pick pastel or vivid hues, the intensity and moodiness of dark colors are considered ideal for fall and winter. The cool plum and dark red shades, earthy browns, and even basic black beckon my inner Goth.
These dark lipstick colors may be hard to pull off, but they look simply mind-blowing. That's why, for today's blog post, I want to share with you my top 5 favorite lipstick colors, which I absolutely love wearing in the cold.
Lip Color #1: Raisin Purple
To start off, let me share with you this small and very cute container with purple lip paint. Unfortunately for me, the shade has no name or even number, but I will try to describe it myself. The semi-matte lip paint has a dark, cool-toned purple shade with a velvety finish on the skin. It closely resembles the Artist Acrylip Lip Stain by Make Up For Ever, but less glossy, so I would definitely call it an affordable dupe.
This purple lip paint is one of my favorite lip colors for winter, as it looks absolutely amazing on any complexion — light, medium, or deep. Everyone can pull off the craziest grunge or nu-goth style, all thanks to this shade. The consistency of the lip paint looks similar to a gel or cream eyeliner and even comes in a similar container. I suggest using a small and flat synthetic brush to apply it neatly to your lips.
Lip Color #2: Garnet Red
The classic red color is beautiful any time of the year. But, during the coldest months, I especially love the intense and moody shade of garnet red. I believe there is no better hue to match the wintertime spleen. So, this next lipstick I wear any time of the day, and I don't care if it is not deemed 'appropriate' for mornings or afternoons. It is the Liphop velvety lipstick in a shade called 'Ripe Plum'. The name says plum, but it is definitely closer to burgundy and red, albeit a beautifully cool-toned red.
The lipstick gives the lips a very appealing, semi-matte finish. It doesn't dry them out; in fact, it moisturizes. I love every little detail about this winter lipstick by Liphop. From the sleek, minimalistic packaging to the perfumed scent, and even the price—it is a truly affordable product. If you're looking for a bold lipstick with super-rich pigment, you should definitely try Liphop.
Lip Color #3: Dark Magenta
Magenta is probably one of the most controversial shades in the beauty industry. It is quite hard to find an ideal magenta shade that looks harmonious with both your eye makeup and your outfit. Therefore, a great option is to rock this shade on the lips, completely on its own, without any heavy eye makeup. Just a few coats of mascara on curled lashes, light-coverage foundation, and loose hair. How does that sound?
My magenta color is a bit too light for my liking; I would prefer something darker for the fall and winter seasons. However, I learned to pair it with a similar but darker lip liner, and it turns out beautifully. This lipstick (or, rather, lip crayon) was part of a Y-Cid set. I recommend using a lip liner not only to intensify the color but also to make the final look defined and neat.
Lip Color #4: Chocolate Brown
Late fall and winter are times for hot, toasty drinks. Just as we add warm shades to our winter wardrobes, the same goes for our lip colors. I believe the beautiful shades of earthy brown look fantastic on the lips. Depending on your complexion and personal preferences, you can experiment with a wide range of brown shades, starting from almost nude, translucent tints to intense, saturated coffee tones.
I like to stick with my favorite 'Claudia' lipstick — a stunning, matte lip color by City Color Cosmetics. It may feel a bit dry upon application, but it is easy to combat that uncomfortable sensation by layering it with a moisturizing lip balm. A matching lip liner can also be used here to add more definition, but it is not mandatory. Best of all, the lipstick stays put for a long time.
Lip Color #5: Classic Red
Any fall or winter day wouldn't be complete without a gorgeous, classic red lipstick. I have two red shades that I love to wear during this time of year. The first one is Le Keux Cosmetics Lip Paint in a shade called 'Whistle Bait', which is perfect for festive occasions like Christmas and New Year's Eve. It is a warm-toned red that glides onto the lips like a charm.
The second is another lip crayon by Y-Cid. It is a blue-based red color, which looks fantastic on cooler skin tones. I wear both of these lipsticks with a lip liner, because without one, it would be difficult to achieve a sharp, polished lip line.
Let's wrap up...
What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you have any particular lip colors you love wearing in the fall and winter? Maybe you prefer reserving these warm, dark shades for your eye makeup? This question is highly debatable, but it looks like the bold lip color tradition is firmly set, and I completely agree with it—at least at this moment in my life. Thank you very much for visiting my blog, and I'll talk to you in my next moody post!
