You have probably heard that the biggest organ of our body is our skin. On average, the surface area of a human's skin is between 1.5–2.0 square meters, and this is a mind-blowing fact! Skin is a barrier between the environment that surrounds us and the internal organs of the body. Therefore, it requires a lot of care and attention, as it carries out such an important function.

Various external factors such as mechanical damage, sun damage, pollution, and internal factors like hormonal changes and aging put our skin through a lot of stress. Add a lack of hydration and poor nutrition to all of this, and you'll cause irreversible damage to the skin. Thankfully, we live in a wonderful time and have a lot of different tools, ingredients, and treatments that allow us to both prevent skin damage and repair it. And here are five simple steps to do so.

Step 1 | Lymphatic Drainage

The very first step is to drain all the puffiness and trapped liquid out of your tissues. And, one of the best ways to do so is to do a special type of therapy, called lymphatic drainage facial. It is usually done by professionals, but you can hold a low-key massaging session yourself. This facial treatment will drastically reduce skin puffiness, redness, and even promote better blood circulation for a refreshed face.

Step 2 | Reduce Inflammation

The cold must follow right after you apply heat to your skin. Hot and cold therapy is an excellent way to calm the skin inflammations, tighten and brighten up your facial skin. It also has a powerful anti-aging effect on your skin. When done regularly, hot and cold skin therapy strengthens up the immune system, promoting growth and repair of the skin cells.

  • Chill your skin with cryotherapy:

Cryotherapy is a facial procedure that involves having liquid nitrogen evenly spread all over your face. Such a facial instantly shrinks enlarged pores, soothes, and refreshes your skin. The procedure will take only 2 to 3 minutes of your time, and is considered to be safer and gentler to the skin, compared to chemical peels and mechanical exfoliators.

  • Or DIY ice cube facial:

If cryo facial isn't available for you, you can DIY this cold and hot procedure yourself. Freeze a few chamomile or cucumber ice cubes and use them on your skin right after the hot shower. Cold face roller or a few minutes of the cold shower are going to be a great alternative to professional cryotherapy as well.

Step 3 | Hydration & Nourishment

All facials and skincare procedures are going to leave your skin thirsty. That's when deep hydration and proper skin nourishment should follow. Skin serums induced with vitamins, creams, beauty oils, and toners are going to rejuvenate the skin, lock moisture in, and calm down irritated skin. Choose skincare products that are high in antioxidants, they will prevent skin stress and speed up the recovery process.

Step 4 | Microcurrent Workout

Your facial muscles need a regular workout just like any other muscle in the body. Microcurrent technology, which has been used since 1980, is going to non-invasively stimulate your facial muscles, tightening, and toning them up. The microcurrent facial is completely painless and can be done by a professional esthetician, or at home, with the help of a portative microcurrent device. A long-term microcurrent treatment not only stimulates your facial muscles, but can also reduce the appearance of fine lines, and wrinkles, without harming your muscles and skin.

Step 5 | LED Light Facial

And, lastly, a few words about the LED light facial. It uses a variety of wavelengths of light, including red and blue light, but does not use ultraviolet rays. Blue light is known to heal damaged skin, suppress levels of cortisol, and treat acne, while red light is used for anti-aging properties. The whole procedure is going to take up to 30 minutes, and you’ll need a few LED light sessions to see the first results.
